Charity Review for 2014. Thanks to Donors & Sponsors for generous support.
27/01/2015

The Chairman, Staff and Volunteers of Shakiry Charity would like to thank you for your commitment and support of orphans, widows and destitute families in Iraq during 2014.   An amount of £167,977 was raised through our London office and sent to Iraq and, our Citizen Advice and Care Centres in Najaf, Grayaat, Sadr City and Bayaa raised locally a further IQD 134,000,000 (approximately £80,000).  In total £247.977 was collected and distributed to relieve sufferings and enhance the lives of those less fortunate

The Centres, besides offering general guidance and advice to vulnerable citizens, continued their humanitarian work and reached out to help hundreds of communities.  They offered financial support, clothing and food vouchers to the hungry.  The Centres helped to renovate broken down homes.  Advice was provided on medical treatment issues, education and welfare. The Charity received 4762 requests for help, out of which we were able to provide support to 3715 families and individuals, including 100 children who received monthly sponsorship.

We were overwhelmed by the heart-warming international response we received to Appeals featured in our weekly newsletters and website.  This enabled us to provide assistance and relief to the forced displaced people in many provinces of Iraq, as well as an increasing number of destitute widows and orphans. The Charity plans to open a further two Centres in 2015.

The Charity Bank Project, which is based on the concept of interest free loans, continued to provide training, support and encouragement for the development of micro businesses. In particular, sewing machines, bread ovens and computers were purchased. Out of a total of 168 loans, 117 were for the Power of the Sewing Machine Programme.  The beneficiaries were mostly widows and divorcees. The aim is on learning a skill, developing confidence and becoming financially independent.

Our focus for 2015 will be our three Projects, namely:

  1. Individual Relief Project      Sponsoring children, appeals and medical support.
  2. Group Relief Project            Clothing, family food vouchers, support to displaced                                               people, and continuation of the housing project.
  3. Charity Bank Project            Promoting and supporting the development of micro-                                             business programmes for poverty relief

Your valuable support and commitment will enable us to make these projects a reality

We look forward to your continued support to fulfil our ambitious humanitarian projects.  For more details on our Projects, please see our website www.shakirycharity.org or visit our offices.

We take this opportunity to wish you and your family a successful and peaceful 2015.

Yours sincerely

A.S Shakiry
