Shakiry Charity for Social Solidarity
The fundraising team at Shakiry Charity for Social Solidarity in London organized a family Iftar party on 27th June 2015, which is 10th of the holy month of Ramadan.
The party was well attended by many Iraqi families in London who liked the idea of having a social gathering during this holy month to revive the old cultural and Arabic religious traditions.
All proceeds from the event were sent to Iraq under our Food and Clothing Voucher programme to support needy families, orphans and the disabled during this month of fasting.
The event opened with a recital from the Holy Quran recited by Mr. Ahmed Al-Hilfy followed by a speech by the chairman Mr. Abdul-Sahib Al-Shakiry who gave a brief introduction about the foundation and activities of the charity. Mr. Shakiry highlighted the goals of the charity and achievements attained through the hard work of its staff and its volunteers both in London and the Centres in Iraq.
Sheikh Hassan Turaiky gave a speech about the benefits and the blessing of this holy month, the month of remembering the hungry and the poor, the month of charity and giving.
The event included a children entertainment activity (Majina Ya Majina) one of the famous Iraqi cultural traditional activities for children.
Following that there was a call for special donations to the Food and Clothing Vouchers Programme, as well as sponsorship of orphans. The result of both appeals was very well successful.
This was followed by an auction for artwork and paintings which had been donated by a number of Iraqi artists. Mr. Ahmed Al-Yassiri under the supervision of Mr. Zaid Al-Fukaiki also donated some honey products. The first agenda on the auction was a free ticket for artwork and house decoration design. The proceeds from this went to help towards wedding expenses for a young couple.
Before the end of the evening, the raffle ticket winner prizes were announced. All the prizes were donations from generous people and companies supporting the event, including a return flight to Iraq kindness of Iraqi Airways.
Guests attending the event expressed their gratitude to the staff of the charity for organizing this successful event to strengthen the social ties and to help to alleviate the suffering of the needy families at home, particularly during this time of Ramadan.
The Trustees, Staff, and Volunteers express their sincere thanks and gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this event such a special evening and great success. Thank you to all the wonderful donors for their generous donations. An amount of £9335 was raised towards supporting the needy and vulnerable people in Iraq.
