As part of the regular inspection visits carried out by the staff of Basra Centre in Fao District in order to assess the wellbeing of orphans registered with the Centre, the staff visited the family of the widow Adawiya Jassim Abood.

Adawiya is a widow and a mother of two orphans both suffering from Thalassaemia (Thalassaemia is a group of inherited blood disorders where the haemoglobin in the blood is abnormal. The abnormality means that the affected red blood cells are unable to function normally, which leads to anaemia).

In addition her daughter suffers from heart failure.

Her husband died several years ago and she has no support apart from donations from kind neighbours.

Adawiya desperately needs a monthly sponsorship in the amount of £60 (approx IQD 102,000) to cover the cost of treatment for her children.
