During our staff’s visits to Al-Faw to review the conditions of families in need, they paid a visit to the widow Intisar Abdel Sayed Mansour in order to evaluate her family’s living conditions.

Previously, the head of the family was earning money and supporting his family. However his untimely death left his wife to provide for their five children who range between the ages 10 and 12.  This was particularly difficult for her during the recession period in which earnings were scarce.

The family lives in a house in the slums.  The roof of their home is made from corrugated metal sheets.  This does not shield them from the heat of the summer or the rain and cold of the winter.

Four of the children are students attending school. They face obstacles in continuing as their mother cannot provide them with school supplies.

Although the family receives social welfare of £94 (150,000 IQD) every two months, they are desperately in need of:

- A sponsorship of the orphans to the value of £16 (approximately 25,000 IQD) for each orphan.
- Financial help to the value of £94 (approximately 150,000 IQD) in order to buy school supplies for the four children.
- Financial help to the value of £156 (approximately 250,000 IQD) to restore the roof.
