Our staff re-visited the family of the martyr Ali and found that the family continue to live in poverty. They stay in a house that is completely unsuitable for habitation.  There are no water pipes and they have to collect water from their neighbours. 

Ali died on the battlefield defending his land and the holy sites.  Prior to his death, he supported his family and three year old daughter.

Bushra Kathem Ghanem, the mother of Ali, now takes care of his three year old daughter because his wife left her daughter to marry someone else. Ali’s mother does not have a stable income and she is not receiving Ali’s salary due to a delay by the department in assessing the application.

Bushra said that they have been given a piece of land, which is part of the compensation plan by the province to the families of martyrs. However she has not received the contract because of her inability to pay £644 (one million Iraqi dinars).  She was informed that if she does not pay this amount of money the land will be taken away from her.

Mrs Bushra Kathem is seeking the support of generous and kind hearted people to support her with any amount of money towards the cost of securing the land, and money that would enable her to start her own small business in order to secure a stable and regular income.

The family needs are:

-         £644 (one million Iraqi dinars) to secure the piece of land

-         £64 (100,000 Iraqi dinars) to extend water pipes to the existing house where she lives with her granddaughter.

-         A monthly sponsorship of £16 (25,000 Iraqi dinars)
