During inspection visits undertaken by the Najaf Centre staff to review the conditions of vulnerable families, we visited the family of Mrs. Sofana Karim Matiry whose husband died on the battlefield years ago, leaving behind ten children ranging between the ages of 7 and 19. She shares a two roomed house with the children, in addition to her daughter whose husband was also killed during a battle, leaving her with one daughter.

The widow supports her large family without any income apart from a pension amounting to 350,000 IQD (approx. £235), which is not enough to meet the needs of the little children, and to feed and clothe them.

This family is in need of:

• Sponsorship of the orphans to the value of £17 (25,000 IQD approx) for each orphan.
• 
  Financial assistance of £100 (150,000 IQD approx) to buy a stove.

• Financial assistance of £100 (150,000 IQD approx) to buy clothes and school supplies for the children.
