As salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullah

Bismillahi rahmaani raheem

congratulations for the birthday of our 1st Holy Imam, Imam Ali (AS). The
blessed months of Rajab, Sha'ban and Ramadhan are upon us, when indeed every prayer will be granted, each breath will be counted as an act of devotion and every charitable response multiplied.

Ramadhan Iftaar Relief:

As we rapidly approach the holy month of Ramadhan, we are appealing for you to assist once again with our Ramadhan Iftaar Relief Project. With your generosity we can reach out to even more families during the month when Allah's mercy is reaching out to each and every one of us. The following
countries will Inshallah be sent assistance: Iraq - Kerbala, Najaf, Basra and Hilla 2,500 families; Iran - Iraqi and Afghan refugees in Qum, Ahwaz, Isfahan, Meshad and Tehran; India - towns in the southern Indian State of Karnataka; Lebanon - towns in the southern part of Lebanon, particularly Nabatiyeh where the effects of Israeli weapons continue to kill and many innocent lives; and Tanzania - Dar es Salaam, the islands of Zanzibar and Pemba and inland towns around Arusha and Bukoba. Iraq:

*  Microfinance Projects: This month LFT transferred £5,200.00 to the water tank project and milking buffalo programme in Basra, thereby allowing income generation for the families, as well fresh, clean drinking water and wholesome milk.

*  Poultry Project: The focus of this project was to assist very needy families in and around Karbala, and in total eighty families (494 members) benefited. Each of the 80 families received 15 egging hens along with enough vitamin concentrated food for them for 10 days. The families then had the option to use the eggs for themselves or sell them in the market, providing them with an income.  For more <click here>

*  Orphan care: This month, a further 30 orphans have been sponsored, although this really is a drop in the ocean relative to the vast number of orphan children who desperately need our help.

*  Wheel Chair: After the successful distribution of 67 wheelchairs to disabled and aged people in and around Kerbala and Najaf, the Trust has transferred a further £5,000.00, towards this project. Please visit the website to view photographs of joy brought to the lives of these people.

Iran:

*  Medical Referral Program: Our partners, IRAC, assisted a record number of 105 patients under the MRP this month. Spending amounted to 84,220,530 Iranian Rials, corresponding to about £4,858.00. Like always, the MRP operated this month between assisting with the crippling cost of treatment for severe and life-threatening disease, and supporting very poor families who have to care for a chronically ill patient. In all these cases, not only the patient's health but the wellbeing of a whole family was at risk. Many thanks to all our donors, who helped these patients and their families.  For more <

*  Orphan care: On the auspicious celebrations of our 1st and 3rd Holy Imams, LFT is donating £550 of Gift Aid Funds, to purchase gifts for some of the Iraqi and Afghani orphans, whose lives have been torn apart by war and destruction.

*  Microfinance Projects: In conjunction with IRAC, the Trust will soon supply milking cows to the Iraqi refugee families; thereby assisting families earn their living in dignity.

Lebanon:

*  Healthcare: LFT, in partnership with PADC in Lebanon, is helping to rehabilitate 64 children with disability become as self reliant as possible. Please see the website for full reports and accounts for the last six months.  For more <

*  Microfinance: The Trust has arranged to purchase a milking cow for a family of four, who are finding it increasingly difficult to make ends meet. The husband was injured during the invasion in 1982, resulting in paralysis to his left side. The young daughter needs to go to school, and so will require fees to be paid. In addition, the family also take care of their elderly grandfather who is also suffering with ill health.

*  Microfinance: Assistance has been given to a young family of five this month, whose mother stepped on a landmine, resulting in the loss of her leg. Having lost her leg, she can no longer work as a janitor, and has had to put her three older children in a charity school that does not request fees. Only their one year old daughter lives with them. Hence The Trust in consultation with it's partner organisation in Lebanon, have purchased a pop corn making machine and some confectionery. She and her husband (who was injured in an Israeli prison) can now sell the product at a stall in the market and earn their living.  For more <click here>

*  Assistance has also been provided for a lady who has polio in her right leg and needs a hip replacement. She used to work as a teacher, but due to her deteriorating health has been unable to do so and is now reading majalis. She also cares for her sister, and elderly mother.

India:

*  Education: Elite School in Bangalore was founded in 2000 with the aim of offering an education to children from poor families. Despite the very modest annual fee of £35, many families still have difficulties paying this, resulting in the child's education being halted and their entering the labour market. For the 2007-2008 school years, 79 students require sponsoring. Investing in education is perhaps the best way to assist and empower poor communities, enabling them to build a better future. Please help us assist these children.  For more <

*  Assistance for an additional 20 students at St Paul's School was transferred this month. Currently there are 800 students at this school, and the subjects taught include Kannada, English, Hindi, Maths, Science and Social Studies. The institution is engaged in bringing up poor students, giving them the opportunity to obtain professional degrees, settling in both India and aboard.  For more <

*  Assistance was granted to a final year BTec Computer Science and Engineering student complete his final year. Without the Rs 50,000, he would have been unable to finish his degree.

*  Housing: One of the major problems for needy families in India is housing. Rents are high and families who do not own a house frequently cannot pay the rent. Two families were granted housing assistance this month, where LFT paid the deposit to the landlord who either puts the money in the bank or invests it for a period of 3 years. All profits are his in place of monthly rent. After this period, both landlord and tenant are free to either renew the contract or the landlord returns the deposit and the tenant finds another place.  For more <click here>

Pakistan / Kashmir:

*  Healthcare: In the month of June, LRBT performed 95 cataract surgeries with funds donated by LFT. This month, the youngest patient was a boy of seven who had travelled all the way from Karachi to undergo surgery for a cataract in his right eye. The oldest patient was a 100year old man who came from Haripur. He suffered from bilateral cataracts, and the sight of his left eye was restored. Each cataract procedure costs only £15.00; please donate generously.  For more <

Tanzania:

*  Healthcare: Despite the country's natural riches, large parts of the population live below the poverty line. Many of them work in agriculture and are out in the sun all day. The incidence of cataracts among the elderly is great, facilities for treating them are scarce and treatment is too expensive.  Many elderly persons thus suffer needlessly from blindness due to a condition that can be cured easily. In cooperation with BMM, LFT dispatched one ophthalmologist to Pemba to perform free cataract surgeries on needy patients. Starting from 22nd to 23rd June 2007, the surgeons, assisted by volunteers, conducted 49 operations in Chake Chake Hospital. One patient was so thrilled with their result and commented ' Alhumdulillah this Ramadhan I will be able to see and recite the Holy Quran, and see the food I eat and water I drink'.  For more <
