As part of the field visits undertaken by Basra Branch, staff visited the family of Salman A.A who suffered a stroke that left him semi-paralyzed. Subsequently, he is now unable to work and earn an income to provide for his family, and thus their living conditions have deteriorated significantly.
The family lives in a slum-like dwelling. Their home lacks many basic requirements such as a refrigerator, an air cooler and a cooker. Salman and his wife have six children aged between 3-18 years. Only one of his daughters is able to attend school due to a lack of financial resources.
This poor family, suffering from poverty and disease, has no financial income apart from a basic social security benefit which they receive every two months. This is insufficient to meet their basic needs in terms of food, drink and medicine.
Salman’s wife has expressed her willingness to try to help her sick husband with the costs of supporting their family. She would like to buy a sewing machine so that she can make and sell clothing to earn an income.
This family needs: -
- A monthly medical sponsorship of 50.000 IQD (approx. £35) to provide treatment for the sick father.
- A donation of 300.000 IQD (approx. £200) to buy a refrigerator.
- A donation of 175.000 IQD (approx. £120) to buy a cooker.
- A donation of 200.000 IQD (approx. £135) to buy a sewing machine.
Staff at the Basra branch appeal to the generosity of people to help this family overcome the hardships it is facing.
