Najaf Branch
Seminar: Child Protection from Domestic Violence in Islamic law
Under the guidance of senior management from London Head Office, Najaf Branch held a seminar entitled "Child Protection from Domestic Violence in Islamic law."
Domestic violence is a pattern of aggressive behaviour, in which the strong exercise their authority and strength on the weak, in order to pressurise him/her into achieving the aggressor’s goals, by using all means of violence, whether physical, verbal or moral. The aggressor is not necessarily one of the parents, but generally the most forceful character in the house. The victims of domestic violence are usually children as they are the weakest members of the family.
Islam forbids domestic violence, and beating or abusing children, because of the negative effects on the child's psyche and on his/her educational and academic performance.
Some of the most important recommendations put forward by Mr Abdul Saheb Riad Kabbah are to encourage the role of educational institutions, schools and families to pay more attention to the rights of children; to prevent violence inside and outside the family; to seek to spread love and peace among family members; and to instil sound principles such as altruism and tolerance, and warn against harming children because of the risks and negative effects it has on children.
