Direct Aid to Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine
26/02/2008

MECA For Peace

Since 1988, MECA has delivered more than $9 million in aid to Palestinian, Iraqi and Lebanese children. This aid includes medicine and medical equipment, food, infant formula and vitamin supplements. We have also provided books, toys and school supplies, and we have given funds to local relief organizations.

In 2006, MECA sent more than $70,000 to Dr. Mona Elfarra for food and medical aid for families throughout the Gaza strip. When the border between Gaza and Egypt is open we will bring in a shipment of medicine from Cairo.

We also sent a $1.4 million medical shipment to Lebanon, and funds to Association Najdeh for their emergency assistance for families who fled to Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon, and the Samidoun Network for food, water and medical supplies for isolated villages.

Aid to Iraq: In the past, MECA staff have bought medicine and medical supplies into Iraq from Jordan, or we have delivered them to Iraqi health workers at the Jordanian border.  In January 2005, MECA was able to get ten cartons of antibiotics to refugees from Fallujah. We are currently seeking funds and logistical options for another shipment of aid.
