Alejandro Toledo and The Magic Tombolinos,
plus special guest Trio Khyam Allami, Elizabeth Nott and Shirley Smart playing music from the Arab world and beyond...
Alejandro Toledo is perhaps one of the most versatile and energetic saxophone players living in London...and when joined by the incredible force of the Magic Tombolinos you can not stop yourself from dancing all night long...And that is what this night is about...DANCING!!!! This band is inspired by Balkan Gypsy music but also Turkish, Arabic and South American grooves. They have performed twice at The Vortex Jazz venue (sold out both times), Union chapel, Le QuecumBar, Notting hill Arts Club, Rio Cinema, and many more...
As an opening act we will have a very special Trio playing mainly Arabic folk/classical music and improvisations. This trio was born of Oud player Khyam Allami and percussionist Elizabeth Nott, who met at SOAS (Uni of London) in 2003 and have been playing together for over two years, and after meeting and listening cellist Shirley Smart performing a few months ago...they could just not let her 'escape'...and made her part of the band...with her consent, of course...
DJ Ezhaan...specializing in Arabic and Gypsy beats will be on decks all night
