Appeal for Assistance from Husseiniya Amir al-Mo’mineen in Dowlat-Abad, Tehran
27/06/2008

The Lady Fâtemah (a.s.) Charitable TrustSeptember Lodge, Village Way, Little Chalfont Buckinghamshire, HP7 9PUJune 2008    Appeal for Assistance from Husseiniya Amir al-Mo’mineen in Dowlat-Abad, Tehran Whosoever visits a sick person, an angel calls from Heaven: "Be happy in the world and happy be your walking; and take your habitation in Paradise." {Holy Prophet Muhammed p.b.u.h.}

Husseiniyas are comparable with Islamic community centers. They normally are used for performing ceremonies on religious holidays and holding services for the deceased. However, Husseiniya Amir al-Mo’mineen, which is located in the Dowlat-Abad region south of Tehran, has assumed a different responsibility for several years now. It offers free accommodation to Iraqi patients coming to Iran for treatment. Men and women can sleep in separate facilities. The Husseiniya provides blankets, toilet services and bathing facilities. While conditions are obviously basic, the head of the Husseiniya does his best to provide services that are suitable for patients and their accompanying persons.Two days ago, IRAC received a call from the head of the Husseiniya. As he explained, due to the fact that a great number of patients suffering from a host of diseases sleeps in the Husseiniya every day, hygienic conditions have become unsuitable. The building needs a general cleaning, disinfection and spraying with anti-roach spray to prevent its infestation with roaches. Blankets need to be washed. Due to the rise in patient numbers during the summer months, the Husseiniya needs to employ two cleaners to ensure that basic cleanliness is maintained, but does not have any income to pay their salaries.Many patients are so poor that they cannot afford to buy proper food. According to the social worker of the main cancer hospital in Tehran, the Iranian Cancer Institute affiliated to Imam Khomeini Hospital, the poor nutrition of many patients is affecting their health. Patients who have to undergo chemo- or radiotherapy need to eat well because the treatment is stressful to the whole body. The Husseiniya has cooking facilities and poor patients can have dinner whenever there are services. However, on many days there is no food. It costs only slightly more than a Pound to feed a poor patient. 1,800 GBP will provide one daily meal for 50 persons for a whole month.Providing cleaning agents and an industrial washing machine to wash the blankets regularly, as well as paying the salaries for two cleaners and providing one meal per day for 50 patients during the coming four months will cost about 7,600 GBP:
