The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has announced a major boost to the Ulster Museum’s redevelopment project by confirming a grant of £4,527,000. The grant is the biggest ever awarded in Northern Ireland.

The Heritage Lottery Fund grant, together with funding from the Department of Culture, Arts & Leisure, is part of a nearly £15 million project. The museum is also conducting a fundraising campaign to meet the full costs of the development.

The 30 month Ulster Museum project, designed to bring an additional 1,225 sq metres of gallery space into public use, will transform the museum’s history and science exhibitions and significantly improve accessibility, learning and visitor facilities. As a result of this funding, plans for revitalising the Ulster Museum which closed its doors to the public last October 1st, are well underway. The museum will be closed for two years while the work is completed.
