ICF appeal to sponsor 1000 Iraqi children
14/07/2008

What is the project of Sponsoring Iraqi children with special needs?

This project simply attempts to sponsor 1000 children with special needs, among the orphans, the destitute, and the poor. It is hoped that the project will, at a later stage, expand to include ten thousand children. The campaign will continue until we reach all disabled children in Iraq. Since the Iraqi Charities Forum does not offer its services directly to the needy, but works to provide its services through other Iraqi charities, it (the Forum) has developed a mechanism for its work and that is to depend solely on the qualified and efficient Iraqi charities inside Iraq which provide services to the disabled children directly. How much does it cost to sponsor a disabled child?

The sponsorship of a disabled child costs 10 pounds sterling per month. This equates to 35 pence a day.

How do I become a sponsor?

All you need to do is complete the attached form, and return it to us with the specified sum of money as a first instalment, whether by cash, by cheque, or through paying by post or any other means which are explained in the form. The Forum will provide you with a photograph of the child you are sponsoring, if you wish, in addition to all other information if you decide to sponsor him or her.

What is the duration of the required sponsorship?

In order to be fair to the needy, the Forum normally requires a minimum period of 12 months for the duration of the sponsorship. After that, the sponsor can decide how long they want to continue with their sponsorship of the child in question. For those who find it difficult to make a financial commitment for this period, they can provide whatever financial assistance they can afford.

What can £10 provide for the disabled child?

Your payments will contribute, to a certain extent, to alleviating some of the suffering of disabled children and provide for some of their basic needs, such as clothes, food, school stationary, health care, and so on. Always remember the saying ‘Do not shy away from giving little as not giving at all is even smaller’.

How much of my contribution will be deducted for administrative expenses?

Nothing at all will be deducted from your contributions. The policy of the Forum states that no administrative expenses are deducted from contributions or specific sponsorships.

Is it possible to contact the sponsored child and send them presents?

We encourage all positive contacts between the sponsors and sponsored as this is very important for the children and their families. This shows there is someone, somewhere who cares about them and makes an effort to contact them from far away to find out how they are.
