Appeal for Fazzel Abdul Iraqi Asylum Seeker and lobby of Home Office calling for an end to Deportati
11/09/2008

Dear Friends,
Please see below letter signed by Jeremy Corbyn Labour MP, Neil Gerrard Labour MP and others which has been sent to The Guardian, The Times, The Observer and The Independent.
Appeal for Fazzel Abdul Iraqi Asylum Seeker and lobby of Home Office calling for an end to Deportations to Iraq 11 Sept 12.30-14.30.
Thirteen Iraqi asylum seekers held in Campsfield detention centre went on hunger strike from 9 August - 17 August.  Fazzel the spokes person for the hunger strikers when asked why they were on hunger strike said " we are being held here without any reason, they are trying to deport us to the most dangerous country in the world. It is better to be dead than to return to Iraq."
Fazzel along with four other Campsfield hunger strikers were given removal papers last week stating "This is notice that we intend to remove you in the next 72 hours or 20 days".  Fazzel and the four other Campsfield hunger strikers have been moved to Colnbrook.  The Federation of Iraqi Refugees has heard that Iraqi asylum seekers held in several other detention centres have been given the same notice.  We fear the Home Office is planning another charter plane back to Erbil in Northern Iraq in the coming week.
Fazzel will be in particular danger if he is returned.  Fazzel is a well known campaigner for the International Federation of Iraqi refugees and has been outspoken in his condemnation of the PUK and KDP the ruling parties in the Kuurdish Regional Government (KRG) in Northern Iraq.  Amnesty has condemned the KRG for imprisoning human rights campaigners and people who politically oppose them.  Fazzel will be a target if he is returned to Iraq.  We ask all your readers to write letters and send faxes to the address below asking the Home Office to stop Deportations to Iraq and release Fazzel Abdul Reference A1140140 and grant him full refugee status
