The Vodafone UK Foundation has made grants totalling £452,113 to four charities as part of its quarterly grants announcement. The donations went to the Centre for Innovation in Voluntary Action, StartHere, Prince’s Trust and NCH. Sarah Shillito, Head of The Vodafone UK Foundation, said: "Our focus is on providing the right information and opportunities particularly to young people at risk of social exclusion to empower them. This mix of projects does just that by providing information, support and a voice to those who need it most."
The Centre for Innovation in Voluntary Action (CIVA) will receive £100,000 to set up the public speaking programme called ‘Morning Choices’ as part of its work to develop the award-winning Canadian Otesha Project to run in the UK.
StartHere is a support service that acts as a gateway to online government and voluntary organisations for anyone looking for information on health, housing, education, employment, welfare and social issues. The charity will receive a second tranche of funding from The Vodafone UK Foundation of £142,113 to develop a web-based service and run a pilot project with the voluntary sector to enable StartHere.
The Prince's Trust will receive two grants totalling £20,000 to fund volunteer mentoring programmes supporting young people who move on from TEAM personal development programmes in West Berkshire and Stoke.
Children's charity NCH will receive £150,000 over two years to develop and run a Virtual Study Club as a pilot at eight NCH Youth Projects including those in Vodafone local communities.
