Distribution of 3 More Milking Cows in the Marshland of Basrah
{86 Milking Cows now feeding 911 people daily}
LFT's project to distribute milking cows to needy families in rural regions has been very successful. In August, a further three families in the southern Iraqi region around Basrah received milking cows. Thirteen persons, among them nine children, benefited from this phase of the project.
One of the benefiting families is headed by a woman, 57-year-old Zahra Abd al-Karim. Three of her four children are still of school age. Zahra is happy that in addition to enhancing the family's nutrition, income from the sale of milk and milk products will help her children to complete their education. "Now I do not need to take my children out of school so that they can assist me with supporting the family", she says.
Baha' Mehdi Saleh is only 33 years old and has finished high school. However, he recently lost his wife and has to raise his two small children all on his own. Therefore, he is presently unable to hold down a job. A milking cow permits him to gain an income while attending to his children at the same time.
Taleb Fadhel Qassem is 50 years old and jobless. He has to care for a wife and three children and finds it difficult to find a job at his age. Tending a milking cow is not too demanding. Taleb is confident that even at his age, he will be able to care for the animal and derive an income from it.
All three families thank LFT's donors and volunteers and include them in their daily prayers.
Many more families in southern Iraq are in need of a milking cow, but purchasing one is way beyond their means. Please, donate generously and enable your Muslim brothers and sisters to live in dignity.

Families who own a milking cow have significantly better nutrition than similar families who do not. Children will at least always have sufficient milk to drink and will hence not suffer from calcium and protein deficiency. Milk also provides most essential vitamins. Grown-ups and children alike benefit from yoghurt, cheese and cream, which are valuable additions to the family's daily diet. The sale of milk and milk products produces much needed cash income and thus helps to keep children in school, especially in women-headed families.

Practical environmental conservation day on Streatham Common
For young adults 11 - 26 years old
(flyer attached)
Embrace Cooperation Ltd's Natural History Exploration of Streatham Common project is running a free practical environmental conservation day with the help of Lambeth Council and BTCV (environmental conservation charity). The event will take place on the Common from 10am to 3pm Tuesday 28th October (during school holidays).
This event will give people the opportunity to learn more about practical environmental conservation, on Streatham Common. This event will also provide a taster session for people interested being involved in Embrace Cooperation Ltd's new environmental project: the Natural History Exploration of the Streatham Common - funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The project aims to raise awareness of the Common by organising nature activities, researching the history of the Common and working with local community groups.
Tasks on the day will include removing scrub and saplings, removing lower branches from trees, cutting down small sycamore and cherry saplings, cutting back scrub and over hanging branches from paths, cutting down privet, putting up signs and video / digital photo sessions of people doing the work (depending on weather). Certificates will be presented to the participants at the end of the event.
