5,587 Iraqi and Afghani Beneficiary Refugees based in Iran Remembered LFT's Donors in Their Prayers during the Holy Month of Ramadhan

During the holy month of Ramadhan, Muslims worldwide try to attain nearness to Allah through increased obedience to His commands. Especially for the more affluent among us, one of the benefits of fasting is to remember those who are less fortunate and experience pangs of hunger all year round. If an affluent Muslim is challenged by fasting from dawn to dusk, what must be the feeling of those who are always struggling to put food on the table? How hard must fasting be for a believer who could not afford to provide a nutritious Eftar for his family?

With funding from LFT, IRAC distributed a food basket containing basic food items to 1,424 needy Iraqi and Afghan refugee families comprising 5,152 individuals in seven locations. Distributions included Iraqi and Afghan refugee families residing in Ahwaz, Qum and Meshhed as well as the residents of Jahrom and Azna camps for Iraqi refugees. A number of needy refugee families in Isfahan and Tehran received cash assistance. The tables below show the numbers of beneficiaries in each location, the contents of the food basket and the amount that was distributed of each item:

IRAC believes that each family has its own preferences. Providing basic food items to needy families frees limited cash, so that families can purchase perishable items to enhance the quality of their meals and provide enjoyment at the same time. IRAC also consulted its beneficiaries about the contents of the food basket. Beneficiaries in Jahrom and Azna refugee camps requested white beans, while refugees in Ahwaz preferred red lentils and families in Meshhed wanted Lappah peas. Due to a sudden scarcity of chicken on the market, this item could only be included in Ahwaz.

As you can see, it is providing basic food items for a person for a month does not even cost 4 GBP. 20 GBP will be enough to provide a food basket for a family.
