New FSB contract encourages more charity sign-ups
26/01/2007

More of the UK’s top charities have signed up for the Fundraising Standards Board (FSB) following the release of its revamped contracts. The FSB has dropped its requirements for members to make sure volunteers comply with fundraising codes of practice and now says that charities must provide volunteers with guidance on the codes and promote them ‘where practical’.

It also now no longer insists that volunteers are trained in the Institute of Fundraising’s codes of practice and the FSB’s Fundraising Promise.

The changes were made after a fundraisers’ steering group was formed in November to look at charities’ concerns with the FSB’s contracts.

The FSB says its membership has risen to 158 charities, which now includes the NSPCC, Scope and the RSPCA. Mark Astarita, fundraising director at the British Red Cross said the charity had been “greatly encouraged” by the consultation and that he would be recommending to the British Red Cross board that they should join the scheme.

The number of small and medium sized charities joining the scheme has also risen and now forms over half the membership.
