A charity fundraising event has raised thousands of pounds in support of the AMAR International Charitable Foundation’s appeal to support the millions of Iraqi orphans, held yesterday afternoon (Thursday 9th of October) at the Dorchester Hotel, London.
The ladies-only event included a fashion show from fashion house Armani, with their most recent winter collection on show. The event was held in the presence of Her Majesty, Queen Noor of Jordan. Zain, Iraq’s major mobile phone network operator have also provided help and support to the event.
Speaking just after the event, Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne, founder and Executive Chairman of the AMAR International Charitable Foundation said:
“It is so important that we do not overlook the suffering of Iraq’s most vulnerable, the millions of orphans who have been left in utter abject poverty. AMAR will help to address the needs of these children. Our doctors and nurses will provide free medical care, we will make sure that they can return to school, and our staff will work to place them with new families in Iraq and support their long term needs.”
Baroness Nicholson continued:
“The need of these orphans is immediate. The reality of their distress is absolute. The mountain that we need to climb is immense, but it is thanks to the help of all those who have donated that the work will be started in earnest. This human tragedy must and will be addressed.
The AMAR Foundation has for nearly two decades been helping Iraqis with emergency and long term health care, education provision and other services. More recently it has become the second largest provider of health care provision in Iraq, behind the Iraqi Department of Health, providing professional services to tens of thousands of Iraqis every month across the country.
