Specialist in the Agriculture and the environment confirmed that the desertification Phenomenon in Iraq, especially in Maysan province is a complex and dangerous phenomena that is facing Iraq. The situations are the result of scarcity of clear water as a result of lack of rain. The water polices with the riparian States which is reflected in the agricultural and environmental conditions alike.

 

Director of Agriculture Maysan Nasir Manati told the correspondent of Iraqi news agency that Maysan province was the first agricultural provincial agricultural in Iraq, and was famous for producing seeds, now it is importing seeds as a results of the desertification and Salinity of the Agricultural land.

 

Manati stated that "The Department of Agriculture developed a plan to establish 16 forest districts within the province to maintain and contribute to improving the environmental reality in the province and covers an area of 50 acres For Single forest, and these forests are distributed in the western judicial, Qal `at Salih, good architecture and the border as well as the establishment of the station in the area of natural pastures on the western area for the rehabilitation of 120 thousand acres of natural pasture land for the cultivation of plant evergreen trees after the drilling of wells throughout the region to provide water for irrigation,".

 

The Director added that surveying of the area is been done and areas affected by the sand dune in the northeast of the city treasury up to the area of good architecture have been identified. The General Authority for Combating Desertification is next move will be the stabilization of sand dunes, the creation of trenches with earthen berms to control the movement of sand and rehabilitation of natural pastures.
