An Act of Remembrance.
20/06/2007

Will your legacy include a charity? It's a time of year when we remember the lasting legacy of those who are no longer with us.

In the run up to Remembrance Day and Christmas, charities are at the forefront of our minds – however, charities need our continued support all the year round.

Leaving a gift to charity in your will is one of the steadiest and most cost-efficient ways of ensuring your favourite cause receives the funding it requires.

A charitable bequest in your will enables you to support the good causes you care about whilst ensuring that your family and dependents are adequately provided for.

What’s more, including a charity in your will can help you reduce the amount of inheritance tax payable on your estate.

£49 billion is passed down each year from generation to generation – 143 entire nations have an individual GDP less than this figure. Yet charities receive just 3.25% of this amount despite charitable legacies being the largest single source of voluntary income to UK charities, raising £1.6 billion each year.

“Without gifts in wills, some charities would simply not exist. Others would have to make dramatic cuts and very hard decisions.

The world would be a very different, a very cold place. We have good reason to thank those who have remembered a charity.” Jonathan Parris, Director, Remember a Charity.

How will you choose to leave your mark on the world? Will you remember a charity in your will?
