Dhi Qar - Citizens' Advice And Care Centre (Nasiriya branch)
In the company of the volunteer Mr Mhadi Hamid, who lives in the Al-Tidhahia district, the Centre's staff visited seven families living in slums (the random areas) positioned behind the Al-Tidhahia district in the town of Nasiriya, where was observed the conditions of these families who live in tragic circumstances and need urgent help.
In what follows are explained their cases:
Firstly, the family of Abbas Dirwish (Abu Hamza) who has four children - Hamza, Karima, Rdha and Benin. He suffers from a cracked spine after a motor accident and is now bedridden, unable to walk and with no livelihood to sustain him, living with his brother in one house needing constant natural treatment, just as he needs a wheelchair, a refrigerator and other medical prerequisites.
Secondly, the family of Hussein Hamid (Abu Abbas) who has four children - Miriam, Abbas, Zahara and Sabrine - the last-mentioned suffering from mental retardedness, unable to speak from birth she is now aged five years old.
The family is in urgent need of a cooker, refrigerator, fireplace oil and a water storage tank - noting that the bathroom and kitchen of the house are without a roof.
Thirdly, the family of the divorcee Mother Saad who suffers from diabetes living with her sister who suffers from mental illnesses. The two sisters receive a social care allowance every two or three months of 140,000 Dinars. They need a water cistern, a fireplace oil, and kitchen prerequisites - the bathroom of the house being without a roof.
Fourthly, the family of Jibar Dalil (Abu Sitar) who suffers from long-term blood pressure problems in addition to a disability in his right shoulder along with giddiness in the head. He has no work and his family live off charitable social assistance payments so they are in urgent need of material aid to fill some of the household needs.
Fifthly, the family of Yasir Fraoun (Abu Ali) who suffers from a congenital handicap in the lower limbs. He is married and has three children - Raqia, Kirar and Ali. Note that the social care allowance for the head of the family was suspended since the first month of the current year. Furthermore, his wife suffers from diabetes and had an operation to amputate her left leg due to thrombosis and now suffers from difficulties in walking, being in need of a wheelchair and a bath-chair.
At the end of the visit Yasir Fraoun requested help to build a shop in the house for his son Ali to sustain the family therefrom.
Sixth, the family of Sair Mohammed (Abu Alaa) who has two children and he suffers from skin diseases and vertebral displacement. He and his family live by collecting empty bottles and are in urgent need of a fireplace oil, a water tank and a metallic sheet to cover the bedroom roof. They are also in need of children's clothing and the wife, who is pregnant, needs to buy prerequisites for the forthcoming baby.
Seventh, the family of the widow mother Awidh who has three children: Awidh, Shima and Grazwa Hamid - none of them more than eight years old. The mother goes every day to the vegetable market to gather some of the surplus vegetables from the sellers in order to sustain her family. This is in addition to rearing animals for other people in exchange for a limited payment.
Therefore the family need material aid and children's clothing just as they also need a petrol heater.
