The Samaritans is a national charity, founded in 1953, committed to the vision that fewer people will take their own lives.  The Samaritans exists to provide confidential emotional support to any person, irrespective of race, creed, age or status who is in emotional distress or at risk of suicide; and to increase public awareness of issues around suicide and depression.

Confidential emotional support is offered by 18,700 trained volunteers across 203 Branches in the UK and Republic of Ireland. For someone experiencing emotional crisis and at risk of dying by suicide, contacting The Samaritans provides every individual with the time and space to explore his or her feelings and begin to work out the way forward.

If you think you have what it takes to help other people you may wish to become a volunteer. If so ring the volunteer recruitment hotline 08705 62 72 82.
