Citizens' Advice And Care Centre (Al-Najaf  branch)

The Al-Najaf Advice Centre visited the family of the boy Ahmed Riyadh Aliwi in the Al-Askiri district, and observed the state of health and lifestyle of the family. It appears that Ahmed, 16 years old, is afflicted with congenital muscular atrophy together with atrophy of the nerves and that these hereditary diseases afflict only the male for Ahmed has three brothers all of them afflicted with the same disease which pervades the family and paralyses its movements. The sister of Ahmed is afflicted with diabetes of a severe kind and the family has become like a gathering of complex, severe hereditary diseases all of them incurable, and all that has led to weaken the material state of the family.

From the sustenance side the state of the family is very weak, being dependant on the head of the family who earns a daily wage barely sufficient to pay the daily needs.

From the dwelling side this family lives in conditions of the utmost squalor where the two-roomed house is inhabited by eight members in what is an open dwelling affording no protection to its inhabitants from the cold of the winter nor from the swelter of the summer.
