Appeal for help: Unwell youth, whose brother died from the same illness, needs treament.

Baghdad - Citizens' Advice And Care Centre (Al-Grayaat branch)

The unwell youth Kamil Sadiq Ashour, born 1993, suffers from a severe weakening of the nerves in the lower limbs impeding him from moving about. He is in need of continuous payments for treatment, whilst the family's material condition is extremely bad which means that they are unable to provide the necessary treatment for the patient. The mother and one of her daughters suffer from the same illness, and one of the brothers previously died from the same disease. The family is without an income, lives in a very small communal dwelling, and depends on subsidies from various well-wishers.

The doctors who were treating and supervising them, and thus the nervous system hospital, confirmed the unlikelihood of success for an operation on them within the region, and their current treatment concentrates on the following two conditions:

(1) Getting medicinal treatment and fortifiers for the nervous system, the majority of them unavailable in governmental hospitals - they being obliged to buy it for exorbitant prices from local pharmacies. The average monthly cost of the medicine is 150,000 to 200,000 Dinars - they being dependant on relations and acquaintances to cover it, but this is not a stable state of affairs.

(2) Continuous natural treatment at the natural treatment hospital with an average of two sessions per week, requiring a car fare of 100,000 Dinars per month.

But, due to the family being unable to cover the aforesaid costs, they ignore some of the prerequisites - which leads to a lessening or non-benefiting of the patient from the treatment if it is interrupted.

It is worth mentioning that the Citizens' Advice And Care Centre (Al-Grayaat branch) participated in offering a wheelchair during the repast which the International Relief And Development Organisation distributed on 19/06/12.
