Jasmine smiles after realizing her dream of getting an electric wheelchair thanks to the generosity of donors.
13/03/2013

A 23 year-old disabled woman called Jasmine Alwan was dreaming of getting an electric wheelchair to enable her to leave the house and travel to where ever she wants to go as she has lost her ability to walk due to her being afflicted with congenital quadriplegia which forces her to live in a state of mental depression due to sitting continuously at home, and when her mental state worsens she does not eat for long periods of time. In order to realize this dream the staff at the Citizens' Advice And Care Centre (An-Najaf branch), part of the Shakiry Charity for Social Solidarity, published an appeal for aid on her behalf, and it was not long before this dream was realized and Jasmine got the electric wheelchair she requested which is worth about $1500 - ie.1,800,000 Iraqi Dinars. A sum which was donated by three well-wishers, one of whom was Aaliah Juwad from Great Britain who donated the largest part of the money, her contribution being £650 - about  $1000. A thousand greetings to her and to all who participated in preparing the appeal and helped in buying the wheelchair for Jasmine. You can watch the film via the following link:

It is worth mentioning that Jasmine Alwan spoke with the Centre's staff when they first visited her and she emphasised that she had many dreams but that the weak material state of the family did not help to change the situation. Her father has a simple kiosk which he earns from, but the social care allowance does not suffice to pay her needs. So she put forward her request for an electric wheelchair to help her really move about and make contact with the outside world, and so rid herself of her depressed mental state.
